My name is Brandon Searles, a driven African American man with the relentless goal of striving and flourishing within the sphere of my chosen career path. As I contemplate this important juncture in my life, I am constantly motivated by the desire to distinguish myself and break the prevalent patterns that typify my immediate family and my small hometown's environment.

Numerous members of my family have faced multiple challenges, including teenage parenthood and the lack of higher education. By witnessing these impeding obstacles firsthand, I have garnered an unwavering motivation to defy the status quo and carve my own path. More than the cliché of just "being different", I seek to manifest a transformative difference that alters the narrative for my family and the forthcoming generations. As a rising freshman at North Carolina A&T State University, I am poised to major in Kinesiology/Physical Therapy, translating my academic interests into the dynamic potential for a transcending difference.

As individuals, we often draw inspiration from both our dreams and daily realities. I take my inspiration from my desire to eradicate the status quo. Each day, I look around and identify elements within my surroundings that either motivate me to work harder or discourage me from becoming complacent. My town encapsulates latent potential and undeniable talent; however, there exists a deficit in resources and opportunities. To ensure that I rise above these inherent limitations and live my ideal lifestyle, I remain steadfast in my academic pursuits, never losing sight of my overarching aim — to graduate college and lead a successful career.

My unwavering focus can be credited to a rigorous self-imposed structure that keeps my goal at the forefront and fosters a sense of perseverance. The constant awareness of where I want to be in the future drives my present actions, ensuring that each step I take is in the direction of growth and improvement. Alarmingly high statistic of individuals not thriving in my close-knit community serves as a continuous reminder of the path I strive to avoid, reinforcing my commitment to my academic success.

My studies in Kinesiology provide an excellent platform for my interest in the human body and its potential for healing and growth. I am delighted at the prospect of helping others and being instrumental in their physical therapy journey. This is a contributory factor to my high school GPA of 3.88, a testament to the effort and dedication I have committed towards my studies.

Through my life journey, I aim to exemplify that the social background or the geographical location of an individual does not dictate their future. I aim to break barriers and defy odds associated with teen parenthood and not attending college. I believe that the Varsity Tutor College Scholarship will be an invaluable stepping stone in my pursuit of academic and professional success.
