Cool is the new Smart!! by Brandall - April 2016 Scholarship Essay

Freshman year, I very intelligent and I know it, but do I or don't I want others to know it? Answer is, NO, I do not want them to know. I want others to think I am the cool kid not the Nerdy Smart kid. Come one, Nerdy Smart kids get picked on, thrown in the trash, grabbed by straps of their backpack and thrown to the ground and all kinds of other ways of being picked on. So, instead of this happening to me, I choose to be cool, joke around with other or class clown, and not do class work. I really thought this would make me cool. Well, being class clown, kinda, made me cool because everyone would laugh at me and remember me. To me that was cool. Except the part where my grades were not all that great and my parents were not happy, at all.

Freshman year was done, and those couple D's on my report card were not good at all. So not good, that I was told that I would be attending summer school to get those D's of transcripts. Now this cool kid could not hang out at the lake, park or anything that consisted of fun outside activity because I was going to be glued to the computer making up those cool D's. WORSE SUMMER OR MY LIFE!!! I was strapped down with Geometry and Intro to Physics. Doubling those up in a short amount of time was hard and stressful and hard.

I had to have a cousin really help me due to me enjoying being the class clown during instruction. I missed everything and anything that dealt with how to do and understand the work. Having my cousin as my tutor made a difference and I appreciate that I had him around to count on.

No more being the class clown after that Cool Kid Freshman year. I should have just went with my intelligence and been the Nerdy Smart kid from the beginning. By the time you are a senior in high school being cool consists of, "who is going to college". Well this kid is. This kid is heading to college with being accepted into an honors program and leadership program. Now that is COOL!!
I wish I had someone telling me this when I was a freshman.... Intelligence is COOL!!!
