I'm One of THOSE People by Braden - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
I have a confession: I actually don't like New Year's Resolutions. Yes, I know, I seem like a total hipster looking through society through my thick glasses while sipping on my Starbuck’s latte. I firmly believe that resolutions exist to promote good character and becoming the kind of person you want and need to be. However, I think people should be looking to improve themselves throughout the year and not just when the calendar is just beginning. People shouldn’t be compartmentalizing their years and saying that each one has different goals. All the years blend together into one life and we should realize that any goals we have play into the other ones and have no limits.
At this moment, one thing I want to work on is to be more patient with friends and family. I admit I have the tendency to want things to happen right away and I need to work on that. I think that this issue is popular within our day-and-age, with technology making things so speedy-quick and not forcing me to wait for anything. I have to realize that people are not iPhones or the Internet and will not do things immediately after I hit the “enter” button. But, I accept that I might have more things to work on a month away, or a week away, or a day away.
