Higher education has become an essential aspect of modern western society that leaves those who attend with a slightly different mindset when compared to those who haven’t attended higher education. Each person experiences it differently but once again it adds to how college is such a special experience. The aspect of my college experience I am most thankful for occurring is the ability to have an educated discussion with a group of people of people from all around the world with different mindsets. during this discussion people listen to each other and not just hear them. This means they hear what the other person or side says, then they understand it. They do not have to agree with it at all, but being able to understand the opposition is a key aspect in moving forward in society. After the discussion, has happened and everyone has put their input into the conversation, people are not angry. This is probably the most significant part of why I am thankful these discussions.
When two adults have a discussion outside of a college environment they more than likely will have an altercation with each other; this is because they will be so upset that someone believes differently than they do. I believe this is due to people not having an open mind to other ideas. Or when they have a discussion they hear the words from the other person but they put no thought into understanding the other side.
To summarize I am thankful for how within college one can discuss anything with a group of people about even the most controversial topics and walk away as a better person. This is due listening and learning the different viewpoints of other. This skill that I am thankful of obtaining from college will not only make me a better and more intelligent person but hopefully will better the world in some way.
