Stick it out. It's worth it. by Blake - April 2016 Scholarship Essay

Hey, guys: Stick it out. It’s worth it.

That, simply put, is the advice I’d give—and I do give—to students younger than me. When it seems like the stress is too much, when you’re hitting your head against the wall, when you’re wondering when you’ll ever use the information you’re learning in the real world (as though school is not the real world): Stick it out. It’s worth it.
When I was in high school, I struggled a lot with staying focused and getting my work done. I didn’t see the point. I wasn’t always excited about what I was learning in my classes. Unfortunately, that’s just life in high school: you’re not always going to be learning about your very favorite topics—and that’s a good thing! It’s hard to become a truly well rounded person if you only ever focus on one thing. Take your time in high school as a blessing, and as the opportunity it is to expand your horizons and learn to think a little bit differently than you do already. Isn’t that the whole point of an education?
Stick it out. It’s worth it. If you don’t think it’s worth it for its own sake, then fine: it’s worth it for the end goal. If nothing else, I am so grateful for my high school education because it has gotten me into the college of my dreams. Hard work and study really pays off, you guys. Not only would I not have gotten in to my school if it weren’t for what I learned and achieved in high school, but I wouldn’t have the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve here.
So remember, even when it looks tough, when it seems useless. Stick it out. It’s worth it.
