My "Why?" by Bethany - October 2024 Scholarship Essay

“Why?” Is a question we often hear in life. Why this class? Why further one's education? Why a community college? These questions will soon be answered and your curiosity about “Why?” will no longer exist. First of all, I am going to satisfy your curiosity about why I took this class. I chose to take English 101 because it is a requirement for obtaining my high school diploma. It is also a prerequisite to earning an associate's degree in marketing at Muskegon Community College. Next, I will explain my reasoning for expanding my knowledge and pursuing further education. My dream in life is to have a successful career and to possess the ability to support my family alongside my loving partner. I will be able to achieve these goals by getting a higher education. Additionally, this level of education often leads to better financial stability and more comfortable working conditions. Finally, I will explain the benefits I see in attending a community college. I am a dual enrollment student attending both Ravenna High School and Muskegon Community College. This means I am currently paying nothing for this experience other than the cost of books, technology, and housing. Once I graduate, as long as I keep my grade point average above 3.5, I will continue to get a free education at MCC. After that, I will transfer to a larger university, then my education will no longer come free to me. This is one of the main benefits I see in attending this school. Along with the financial reasons I also like the fact that MCC is close to my home so that I can continue to live with my parents while going to school in Muskegon. Overall the answer to “Why?” is a very subjective concept and the answer will be different for everyone. I have shared with you my answer to “Why?”. In conclusion, I hope I have satisfied your curiosity surrounding the all-consuming question of “Why?”.
