My Major Decision by Bethany - May 2023 Scholarship Essay

I plan on Majoring in Music Education. I have been accepted into Ohio University and have also been accepted into their concert band for the fall of 2023. I have wanted to major in Music Education since I was in eighth grade. I have been influenced by each band director I have been able to preform for. Each director had such a vibrant passion for music and wanting to teach it. Although I have experienced different teaching techniques and different levels of passion for music, I know that becoming a band director is going to my long time job.
Personally, I have an enormous love for music, whether it be playing with an entire band, playing by myself, learning new instruments, or even teaching new members different techniques for playing their specified instrument. I want to inspire the up and coming youth to have the same love for music as I do. I want to pass on my passion for each student and I would love to inspire them to have a future in music as well. Being able to have an impact on students would make my life complete. Knowing that I have spread my love for music to everyone that crosses my path. Growing up, I had a lot of support with my musical abilities. Being able to give that same support to future students is a dream of mine. Knowing the different abilities of each student and knowing how to properly teach them is something that I will learn in time.
Since I have known what I was going to major in for a long time, approximately five years, I have no desire to change that. Although there may be some struggles along the way, I am determined to spread my love for music and my passion that I have. Just thinking about this dream makes me feel a sense of happiness. I aspire to become a well loved and great music teacher in due time.
