Everyone Has a Creative Side by Bethanie - November 2021 Scholarship Essay
Art class deserves more emphasis in school because everyone deserves to find what creative activity they like to do best. Even though many people claim they cannot draw, there are other things they could try instead. Plus, being creative has many benefits.
Creativity is vital for mental health. According to Brad Brenner, Ph.D., unleashing your creative potential is the key to mental well-being and overall health. And tapping into your creativity also creates positive emotions, lessens depressive symptoms, reduces stress, decreases anxiety, and even improves immune system functioning, says Dr. Cathy Malchiodi.
Spending time being creative also creates more positive affect, which “expands our perspective so that we notice more possibilities in our lives,” wellness coach Elizabeth Scott says. “This enables us to more easily take advantage of these resources.” Ms. Scott says that if you experience an increase in positive affect, you might be less inclined to focus on the negative and may place more intent on the positive outcomes in your day-to-day life.
By putting more art classes in schools across the country, we will create something for kids to look forward to. We will also create a chance to improve childrens' psychological health. Everyone has a creative side; you only have to find it.
