A Way to Freedom by Berenice - October 2022 Scholarship Essay
When you go to Dictionary.com and search for the word freedom, the definition says, "The state of being free or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint." In my head, freedom is the ability to do whatever you set your mind to without limitations. To me, freedom and education are two in one. Education is a way to get the freedom that we all crave.
Freedom requires money; without it, there comes many restrictions. Having an education gives you economic freedom. College-educated people statistically earn higher than people who have a high school diploma. They are more likely to have economic freedom. They can travel more and accomplish their financial goals faster.
Education gives you a higher social standing. No matter what people say, we as a society see people who have a college degree or a higher education as smarter and more accomplished. Going to a university gives you connections that you would not have otherwise. All of this brings you closer to freedom. You can do more with your life. You can get job offers that you would never dream of having.
The freedom that having an education gives you is unlike no other. You can make something out of yourself. You have the freedom to give to your community in a way that you couldn't without an education; help them improve socially and financially. Education is a way to freedom.
