Role Model For Future Generations by Benjamin - December 2015 Scholarship Essay
My future holds a vision of teaching high school students in the discipline of music, emphasizing vocal music. I want to be a strong male role model for the younger generation. I see myself showing my passion for music and helping students see how music can impact everyone, no matter where they come from or their circumstances. In ten years, I will be a positive influence and have an impact on the lives of high school students.
In addition to my teaching, I plan on participating in professional choirs. I simply enjoy singing and plan to participate at a high level. These may be in a local community or even in a wider setting such as on Chicago or New York City.
My education will be significant in helping me be where I want to be in ten years. The formal schooling will obviously need to include vocal and music study. This will help me grow my knowledge of music and technics. It will also provide me the skills to be an educator. Educating is not only about teaching from a textbook but understanding each student’s needs and goals and then adapting the learning to them. The experiences I gain in my education while in college – classroom, extra-curricular and ‘life-experience’ will give me a breadth of knowledge to grow personally to achieve my goals and also to share with students. My education will expose me to opportunities to explore in professional choir settings. My course study will focus on music education but there is so much more to learn in college that I will be able to use to help future students.
High schools today are focusing less on fine arts, such as music. I want my education to provide me with the knowledge and skills necessary so that I can be a music educator. I believe it is important to have strong role models to continue to support and teach the fine arts. In ten years, I will be one of those role models.
