Always Have Fun by Benjamin - June 2026 Scholarship Essay

If I could design a project to improve my school, I would focus on creating more fun activities and events for students. Many students feel that school is mostly about classes, homework, quizzes, and tests, with very few opportunities to relax and enjoy themselves. While learning is the main purpose of school, students also need chances to have fun, connect with others, and feel excited about coming to school each day. My project would help make school a more enjoyable place by giving students more opportunities to participate in activities outside of the classroom. The project would include monthly school events such as game nights, spirit days, talent shows, sports tournaments, movie nights, and outdoor activities. These events would give students something exciting to look forward to throughout the year. For example, spirit days could allow students to dress according to fun themes, such as favorite sports teams, school colors, or crazy hat day. Talent shows would give students a chance to share their skills in singing, dancing, acting, or playing instruments. Sports tournaments could encourage friendly competition while helping students stay active and healthy. Even simple activities like lunchtime games or school-wide contests could make a big difference in creating a more positive atmosphere. I would focus on this project because having fun at school is important for students’ mental health and motivation. School can sometimes be stressful because of assignments, tests, and other responsibilities. When students have opportunities to participate in enjoyable activities, they can take a break from stress and recharge their energy. Fun events can improve students’ moods and help them feel happier while they are at school. Students who enjoy coming to school are often more motivated to learn and participate in class.

Another reason this project is important is because it would help students build friendships and feel more connected to their school community. Not every student is involved in sports teams or clubs, so school events can provide opportunities for everyone to participate. Activities that bring students together can help them meet new people, work as a team, and develop stronger relationships. This can create a more welcoming environment where students feel accepted and included. This project would benefit the entire school by increasing school spirit and creating positive memories. Many students remember the special events they attended more than the regular school days. Fun activities can give students experiences they will talk about and remember for years. School spirit can also improve when students feel proud of their school and excited to participate in school events. Instead of viewing school as only a place for learning, students could also see it as a place where they can have enjoyable experiences and build meaningful friendships. A balance between education and fun can help students feel more successful, confident, and engaged. By adding more fun and engaging activities, my school would become a more welcoming, exciting, and positive environment for everyone. This project would help students look forward to coming to school and make their overall school experience much more enjoyable.
