The most interesting lesson I've learned in bible study class was that we all claim to be who we say we are. For example, if I asked a basketball player who he was, he would say he is an athlete or a basketball player. The question is, who does Jesus say we are? When the people in Jerusalem were questioning Jesus as the Messiah, Jesus asked Simon if he believes that Jesus is the Messiah. Simon believed Jesus was the Messiah so Jesus gave him a another name--Peter. He gave Peter a mission and that mission was to continue building his Church. If you believe Jesus is the Messiah, Jesus will give you a name, which you are given at confirmation, and a mission. That mission is to go out and spread the word of God. So you might say that you are a basketball player or an athlete, but in reality, yoou are who you are by living out the word of God. There are many ways you can live out the word of God and how you do it nakes you who you are.
