Social Butterfly by Bella - March 2021 Scholarship Essay

My academic role model started off as my best friend in my junior year of high school. I remember meeting a Peruvian girl during my art class and immediately feeling a connection towards her. She spoke English extremely well and I could not believe it was her second language. I also learned through that art class that Ana was extremely creative and social.
Because of this new social butterfly I had met I learned many new things about different cultures and new things about Ana as a person. I discovered that although she was the same age as me, she was a senior in high school because of her drive and intelligence. She now attends our local community college and plans to become a pediatrician. She has large dreams and actively moves towards them and that motivates me to be more persistent in my efforts.
Ana is my academic role model because she was thrown into a new environment where everyone spoke a different language than her native one and she flourished. She excelled in her classes while playing new sports, making new friends, and adjusting to a completely different life. Ana sets large goals for herself and does not stop until she reaches them.
Ana has inspired me to be more open to new things, have confidence in what I do, and understand that I decide my future not my circumstances or other people. She has helped me grow so much over the small time we have known each other and I know we will both do wonderful things in life.
