Academic Success by Baylee - March 2014 Scholarship Essay
My grandfather made it to vice president of a company without any college where today one cannot even work at many companies without a college education. Education has proven more and more important in getting a good job as time passes. Sadly many students do not put enough focus on school until it is almost too late. I am an academically driven person and worked very hard in high school to maintain good grades. In my current high school education I have maintained all A’s, taking as many advanced classes as possible. Because of this my weighted GPA is a 4.70.
Being top of my class, with a few other people who have all kept the same grades as I, resulted in an award that meant more to me than I think anyone knows. I was granted a $9500 scholarship for four years at Arizona State University or a $10,000 scholarship at University of Arizona, depending on where I decided to go, just because of my grades. This is the first real time my persistence in the academic area has really paid off and if I keep up a good Grade Point Average in college as well I hope to get financial help for Graduate School in four years or so.
Hard work in school is a necessary task if one hopes to achieve success in a science field as I hope to. Virology is a field that has interested me for years and through dedicating much of my time to school and studies I will strive to achieve my goal. In high school my dedication earned the recognition of multiple colleges, in college I hope it will help get me even closer to the career of my dreams.
