Stop Searching, Start Living. by Basim - November 2018 Scholarship Essay
I would love for my senior quote to be “Stop searching, start living.” Four simple yet powerful words embodying the idea to live in the now, the only time that truly exists. To stop expecting happiness to come from future circumstances or material objects and to stop dwelling on the past where both happy and sad memories will bring you down. It underlines the essence of being grateful for everything you currently possess and to realize that you don’t need anything or anyone to truly be happy.
This senior quote hits close to home since it’s been as essential to my life as water is to my well being. I realized at a young age that the past is an important part of learning and growing as an individual, but I also found that as I got older my friends began living more and more in the past. Likewise it is great to set goals for yourself, but spending too much time in the future will strip away any time you had to achieve those goals you spent so much time conjuring up.
This is why it has been my mission to live in the now. To learn from past mistakes and to set bigger and bigger goals for myself, but to never ignore all the wonderful people and objects surrounding me in the present moment. To stop searching for a happy life, and start living it.
