It is from the moment our mother speaks to us for the first time that the brain manages to form the first sensory connection to our mothers. When they rub their bellies, play music for us, talk to us, and coexist with our newly formed bodies. Human connection has no limits, and it starts naturally from our mothers. As children, we can’t choose our mothers, though they can’t choose us as children either. As our bones start to grow, so do our personalities, and that is when the connection is either threatened or reinforced.
The connection to my mother goes across physical and biological boundaries that we have shared. Yet, our differences make our bond stronger. Most mothers have a more mature and conventional view of the world, as they are stronger than us and have lived for a little longer; but sometimes the generational gap is too big, and shoutouts need to be addressed. I have worked with my mother closely ever since I was a little egg. However, sometimes I feel like I have known her too much and I need a break. From our political preferences to our stances on controversial topics like abortion laws, gay marriage, and euthanasia; we have polarizing views of the world and what it is that matters in our time alive.
Having a good relationship with our mothers is the most important job of our lives. I am by no means detaching from the importance of fatherly figures, but there is not a stronger connection between two human beings than motherhood. I learn and grow every day from the job of being a daughter, and I guess my mom does from being a mother. The most important lesson my mom has taught me is how to be a woman. It is being a woman to let your voice be heard, let your rights be exercised, and lead your life to the pursuit of knowledge. I am a firm believer that my life will be granted with happiness once I follow this mantra. Because it is what our mothers have done to make us deserving of what we have today.
Therefore, it doesn’t matter how many times I may have debates with my mother on whether a fetus is a baby or not; but I will be eternally grateful for working with her in shaping my future and giving me better insights into what it is to be a young woman.
