More than intoxicated youth by Bára - April 2020 Scholarship Essay
When you hear about college/university in American movies, it usually comes down to sharing alcohol-intoxicated stories, having cute hat-trowing pictures or meeting the soulmate. But what is going to college really about?
College is a unique place, both physically the place you live at for at least four years, and metaphorically, a spot on your timeline that brings up many memories. After leaving high school and at some cases, moving out from the parents to the campus, where people from the same age with similar hopes and dreams, motivation and creativity, reside. It allows for a young strong-willed individual to be encouraged and to believe, that his dreams may indeed, come true. Not only living with students, but also meeting teachers on a regular basis, might bring exactly the spirit of support a young adult would need.
Thanks to extra-curricular activities and sports, the college offers, young people can joggle enriching the key information that is needed for the major of their choice, as well as experiencing the team-spirit in a sport or club or volunteering. Being able to broaden one's abilities on every level of a human, is crucial for personal growth, but equally as important is the confidence one can gain. With all those personal characteristics strengthened, college can and hopefully will really prepare the student for the job market and a career in a major of their choice.
