My Personal Touch by Bailey - August 2018 Scholarship Essay

If I ran an education podcast, I would run a psychology podcast. In high school, I took 2 psychology classes and found the courses quite interesting. I believe that psychology pertains to everyone and that if more students and teachers knew more psychology, they could better their experiences both in college and high school.

My podcast would discuss the popular experiments like the Little Albert experiment and go as far as the Stanford Prison experiment, and relate it to how it can be used to reflect today's society. Different psychological experiments and different terms that the viewers and I could relate to today's society to help make it better. Everybody would benefit from learning psychology, whether as a hobby or as a class because it relates to everybody and their behavior and cognition. After understanding the concept, you can understand why people act certain ways, whether it be to benefit themselves or to benefit others.

For example, if I talked about the Stanford Prison experiment on the podcast, I'd discuss that it showed that people who were given power, albeit as a test, they tend to abuse it because they believe there are no consequences for it. On the other side, the "prisoners" that were abused developed stress disorders and had trouble coping with the environment and inferiority. Then I would relate it to how some people who take power into their own hands can make others feel inferior.

Everybody would benefit from an educational psychology podcast, as long as it was made intriguing and kept listeners entertained.
