Make the most of it by Bailey - November 2016 Scholarship Essay

I will be most thankful for the independent experience I will be gaining. I think it is very important to find yourself and rely on yourself rather than your parents or others. College gives oneself the opportunity to become self reliant. It’s very important to believe in yourself, especially when it comes to college. College is a challenge to most, but with the right mindset, anything is possible.

Making new friends is also very important to me. Being able to socialize can be challenging at times, but also rewarding. I come from a rural community with a graduating class size of 31 students. Diversity is not really an issue in our school. I am looking forward to meeting not only new people, but different people. I want to be able to understand what it’s like to walk in someone else’s shoes. Living in a small community has many advantages, and I am very thankful for everything I have. However, living in a small community can also shelter you from understanding what the world is really like.

Lastly, I believe education is truly important. I am very thankful that I have been given the opportunity to attend a great school with great teachers. They have prepared me, along with my parents, for my next step. I think too many people take education for granted and don’t stop and take the time to realize not everyone has the same opportunities. I will put my heart and soul into my college experience. I am planning on becoming a nurse someday, so I can truly make a difference in someone else’s life. College is the next step on my future goals and I am ready to make the most of it and strive to make my goals become a reality.
