Fueled by the past, focused on future by Aziah - April 2024 Scholarship Essay
Varsity Tutors College Scholarship Contest Committee,
My name is Aziah Dix, a rising sophomore at Georgia State University (GSU), dedicatedly pursuing my Masters of Business Administration (MBA). I take immense pride in being a first-generation college student from a diverse background, tracing my roots from Black, Hispanic, Native American, and White ethnicity. I am a woman who chooses to identify beyond the conventional gender binaries and believes in pushing boundaries, be it personal or professional.
My journey to the realm of academia was not presented to me on a silver platter. Rather, it was laced with challenges and countless moments when surrendering seemed the easy way out. However, the desire to shift the paradigm of my life kept the flame of determination burning bright within me. This unwavering resolve brings me to my central motivation to pursue my academic goal - the aspiration to not only make myself proud but also to vindicate the faith my parents instilled in me and their sacrifices for me to reach greater heights.
Growing up, I learned the value of working diligently for the things I wanted. Nothing was handed to me, and this, instead of becoming a hurdle, became the backbone of my resolve. The relentless labor, the waking hours spent in grit and determination, has enabled me to not just envision a better future but contribute toward making it a reality.
Burning the midnight oil to rank among the top students wasn't a requirement, but a conscious choice. While my college GPA might not be a flawless representation of my academic competence, it is a testament to my resilience in face of hurdles and my constant effort towards improvement.
Staying focused is not just a desire but a necessity. As I juggle my personal and academic life, discipline and organization have become my allies. I use a planner that schedules my week efficiently, helping me establish a balanced approach between my social and academic commitments. Every opportunity that comes knocking is used productively, be it assignments to complete or materials to study. I have fostered a culture of proactive learning in my life, which empowers me to stay organized and perform my best.
Beyond academics, I am fervently driven to cultivate an integrative and globally adaptable business perspective. My business studies at GSU have not only made me technically proficient but have also instilled in me a sense of curiosity that propels me to continually seek knowledge.
In conclusion, my spirited background along with my unyielding focus form a poise, positioning me as a unique candidate for the Varsity Tutors College Scholarship Contest. I am fuelled by my past and focused on the future, allowing me to tirelessly chase my academic and professional ambitions.
I appreciate your consideration of my application and look forward to the possibility of contributing to the esteemed culture of academic excellence that Varsity Tutors represents.
Sincerely,
Aziah Dix
