Green, White, Red VS Red, White Blue by Ayra - April 2019 Scholarship Essay

I have achieved a bit of unsettling things in my life. But as a child, when people start realizing the way life really works, our innocence is taken away. I lived in Phoenix, Arizona until I split half my year of fourth grade when I moved to Mexico. Most schools did not have much technology in elementary, middle, or high school. More technology exists in university education. We are responsible for our own supplies and work ethic including the fact of spending the rest of my elementary school years with the same kids in my classroom. We did not manage to do different activities in the library, computer lab, art class, etcetera, none of that. The first time I entered that school I found myself super nervous;in my opinion the school looked ugly too. The minute I stepped there the first thought that came to my mind hit: "I want to go home", it did not seem right. This marked the beginning of a BIG change for me. When my mom told me "Mija we are moving to Mexico". I did not know what that really meant, I only looked at the fun side, like a new adventure, a traveling adventure with my mom on the side. It has been years;here I am once again. I arrived this last June to Denver, Colorado, to the country where I lived part of my wonderful childhood. I had planned working for the summer and flying back to Mexico before school started. My uncle offered me to stay and finish my last year of high school here. My mom did not say no to that, she knew life did not give you many chances and when people had that chance:the risk taken would be worth it. My last thrilled year of high school ready to do what my little fragile me wanted. When I found myself ready to enrolled, a teacher talked to me, trying to tell me I would not be able to make it because if you compare this girl to others who have been in the school for 4 years I did not have what it takes, I would be taking junior year all over again making me feel unwelcomed and discriminated by race. If I look back at it now, all those kids who have been here for 4 years obtained low grades, the grades you would see on my report cards were A's and B's. I proved the teacher wrong showing him I could do it, sitting down all alone in an empty room ready to analyze and study hard on all my school work this was worth it. I thought things were going to be super hard because of the drastic change, but I was over thinking too much, letting people get inside my head. This was not hard at all, it was even easier than my old school back at Mexico. Never associate your dreams along with opinions of others who just want to see you down, if you try hard enough you will reach your dreams and shut other people's mouths.
