Hard Work Pays Off by Ayana - March 2014 Scholarship Essay
Being an overachiever is a blessing and a curse; with this comes stress and the tendency to be tough on yourself. But, there is one major perk; this perk is that hard work always pays off. One of my greatest academic achievements was when I unexpectedly received an Achievement Award from Berkeley College. I did not apply for this award, my teacher just recognized how hard I worked and I was rewarded with an award. This award has had a greater impact on me than any other award I have received.
My junior year of high school I took a marketing course because I thought it would give me some insight to my future career. Being a future entrepreneur and business woman I made sure I paid attention in class and absorbed as much information as I could. Towards the end of that school year my teacher pulled me aside and told me that she recommended me for a business award and I won. This award was to recognize outstanding achievement in high school business and then and there I knew I was doing something right.
This academic achievement impacted me greatly because it reassured me that I was headed in the right direction. I knew that I wanted to work in the business field since I was a little girl. Getting a business award just goes to show me that this is what I was meant to do. My teacher unknowingly gave me motivation to keep pushing on. You may not think someone notices how hard you work, but they do; just wait and see.
