My Community by Aviyana - May 2025 Scholarship Essay

I would start in my home community if I had unlimited time and money. My community faces everyday issues of not having a nearby grocery store, public transportation, a safe space for the community's kids, and overall public safety. To help counteract this, I would work with the leaders of our community to help fund different organizations that help reverse these issues, for example, building a grocery store and community center in one of the many open lots, as well as financing a bus line for those who may not have access to transport. With my time in school, I have learned that as a member of society, you must use every resource available to you to build up your environment. So, even if you are starting small, like how I would with my neighborhood, it is just one building block for a long path of hope for a better future. This would set me up to help broader areas, like moving up to make changes for my whole county, even the counties next to mine, working to support the state, and then some. Starting small gives you a foundation and understanding of working with people and making a difference in community members' lives. As I progress level after level, I will be able to understand better what needs to be done, work with unique individuals, and ensure a safer environment.
