Privilige to Write, Right to Learn by Avery - January 2021 Scholarship Essay
Certain questions, even ones that sound so simple, can be tricky to answer if thought about too deeply. One example is the question, "Is education a right or privilege?". This question sounds simple enough, however if one were to think very deeply as mentioned earlier, they would realize the question is actually rather difficult to answer.
An excellent word to describe us Americans would be privileged(not meaning the entitled version of privilege). Considering we have been granted so many freedoms and can do as we wish thus proving the point of American privilege. For us to have the amount of freedom we have today, there are rules to be followed and rights given to citizens of America for everything to run smoothly. The right to a free education through the high school level is included in the list of rights.
So, some would agree with the statement, "education is a right", but there is still more to it. We are given the privilege to have the extent of education each American is given today as a right. It is an American privilege to be able to make it a right, and this is where I form my answer "Education is privileged right!".
