What Really Matters in High School by Avery - April 2016 Scholarship Essay
High school is a hard time for all teens and young adults. While these teens are struggling with maintaining good grades and possibly balancing a job and/or extracurricular activities these teens are trying to find their way in life. A high student’s status becomes more important than studying for a major test. Even doing simple homework problems gets procrastinated. With that said, I would express openly to all younger students to focus on grades because that is what will define their life after high school.
Too many teens today, especially in high school, believe it is a goal to become well liked and popular. Unfortunately, these young adults do not realize that after high school the term "popular" is unheard of. Grades are essential to getting accepted to college and grades will also define the amount of debt a student might be in after college. For example, if a student has low grades but barely made the application cut, then the students may get very little if not any scholarship money which will put the student into massive debt. However, if a student applies for a college, with amazing grades, then the student’s life after college will be much easier simply because he/she will not have a massive amount of debt to pay off.
What matters is grades and what does not matter is how many people you hang out with over the weekend. This statement is the number one piece of advice that all younger students need to hear. Without understanding this advice, a student’s life will be hard and very stressful after college. But with a full understanding of this statement, a young student preparing for high school will excel in life before and after college.
