Who Cares? by Ave - April 2016 Scholarship Essay
I was so worried about what other people thought about me and expected of me. My fears included everything from, “what if someone recognizes that I wore these jeans two days ago?” to “what if I don’t get into as good a college as my friends?”
But ultimately, who matters enough to sway your opinion on your own life choices? Your opinion should be the only one you worry about. No one will be concerned that those jeans were worn two days ago—they are too busy wondering if you know they forgot to brush their teeth this morning. And no one will focus on what college you are going to because they are too busy fretting about how they will pay for their own education.
Stop worrying about what other people think of you and be fearless!
Tryout for the tennis team, even though you have never played. Try that chocolate covered cricket your teacher brought in for international foods day. Apply for that elite dance program. Tell that joke you just made up about the beaver and his wooden toothbrush— who cares if people do not think you are funny? Or if people think you are bad at tennis, or weird, or not “good enough” to get into the dance program? The only person you should worry about is you.
Live your life for you. And if people judge you for that, do not take it to heart because maybe they are simply envious of your fearlessness.
