Three characteristics of leadership I value most are integrity, synergy and humbleness. An effective leader is honest, works well as a team, is fair and courteous.
First, an individual who leads with integrity is admired, trustworthy, and respected. There may be times that unpopular decisions need to be made. A leader with integrity can make decisions based on the idea of what is right. This honest leader does not waiver. I feel integrity is of utmost importance. Outcomes are a direct reflection of decisions made. Making an appropriate and sincere decision with integrity and honesty at the forefront will unequivocally foster a positive outcome.
Next, leadership must incorporate synergy; an ability to work as a team. Leadership encompasses a multidisciplinary approach. It involves shared ideas, collaboration, and teamwork. The ability to listen, embrace and support new ideas fosters impressive leadership. I plan to earn a degree as a Radiologic Technician. I am aware, while working in healthcare, I will need to rely on a team approach to provide the best care and result for patients.
Last, humbleness is a character trait that is a pillar of able leadership. I feel they are developed individually based on modeling, experience, and from examples of strong leadership. All of these elements evolve, I feel, from both professional and personal backgrounds. A home and workplace that is nurturing, free of bias, encouragement to explore and promotion of growth, all benefit and support constructive leadership.
The first person I think of someone special who has demonstrated leadership in my life is my father. My dad has coached me from youth recreation sports to Varsity Athletics. He commands respect with his energy and passion to make my team and I better. In fact, in youth rec. other parents would request their child was put on his team due to his knowledge, guidance, patience, and ultimate leadership. He leads by example, encourages the best in all, and dedicates himself without reservation. He works alongside other Varsity coaches. His collaboration with other coaches and districts benefits and strengthens our program. About 6 years ago, my dad and I started an entrepreneurship adventure together. I am thankful for the time we spend together, the lessons he teaches me, and his guidance to support and be active in the community. He makes me want to be a better person, abide by my values and ultimately aspire to be the best leader.
