Do Hard Things by Ava - April 2024 Scholarship Essay

Ever since I was young, I’ve been drawn to doing hard things. School is no different. I’ve worked hard at my school my whole life, and as I searched for higher education, the harder the academics, the more I wanted to attend. Besides this, I’ve consistently demonstrated that my strong will (or pigheadedness-- the term depends on who you ask) makes it nearly impossible for me to back down from my commitments. Whether I get it done a month in advance, or just an hour before the deadline, I’ll get it done if it kills me trying. I take this same attitude into applying for financial aid. There’s a list on my computer of hundreds of scholarships, categorized by awarded amount and deadlines, and I’ve made it my mission to apply to every single one. Sure, the chances of me winning are usually fairly small. But my strong will (slash pigheadedness) just won’t let me quit. I’m going to make a change in the world, so I have to go to college; I have to go to college, so I have to pay for it; I have to pay for it, so I have to apply for financial aid.
After being accepted into a college rated in the top 2% for academic strength, this mission is all the more concrete. Blessed with an indefatigable source of effort to reach my goals, I will continue to give it all I have. Any scholarship aid I receive will not go wasted-- how could it, after I worked so hard to gain it?
