Advice to My Past Self: "Play into your strengths." by Autumn - September 2022 Scholarship Essay
You have unique strengths: use them! It is easy to feel like you have fallen behind in either the social or academic aspects of school. It is always best to put your best effort forth, and this applies to your attitude towards yourself as well. Just because you are not the best athlete, scholar, or social butterfly, does not mean that all of your good qualities hold no value.
There are countless examples of charismatic figures who gained success simply because of their ability to be social and likable, regardless of their not-so-perfect GPA. Oppositely, you have always been someone that struggles to make friends but excels in school. The solution: play into your strengths. Simply asking to compare answers (when allowed by the teacher, of course) with a classmate will allow you to become familiar with so many new people, while also talking about a subject you are comfortable with. So remember, you do not have to be the best, you just have to be you.
Every person should be given the opportunity to thrive. Through your studies at school, you will attain the knowledge you will need to make a worthwhile change in the world. Aim to focus on self-growth and improvement, because only then will you be able to help others.
