Involvement in High School by Audrey - March 2019 Scholarship Essay
Being a freshman and entering high school can be scary but it can also be some of the most memorable four years of your life. For me, being a senior in high school, giving this tour is bringing back many memories from being a freshman. Coming in freshman year, I was scared as well but high school is a roll coaster of emotions, thrills, laughter, tries, joy and many other things.
There are many things that I wish I knew before I entered high school, some things that would affect my high school career and others that would change it. The best advice that I could give to incoming freshman is to get involved and don’t hold yourself back from anything. By that I mean, if there is a club that seems like something you’d like, get involved in it. If there is sport that you have never tried before but for some reason seems fun, try it out. Don’t be afraid to try new things just because you are in high school. These four years you grow like no other, you will make friends that will last a lifetime and you start to figure out who you are as a person.
Speaking from personal experience, I tried out a new sport my junior year. I started my high school career playing field hockey but my junior year I decided to run instead. Making that leap was very scary but one of the most amazing things I’ve ever done. I truly recommend getting involved in everything that sparks an interest to you and not holding yourself back. These four years only happen once, so live it up to the best you can.
