Edgar Allan Poe by Audreanna - February 2016 Scholarship Essay
If I could have dinner with any historical figure I believe I would have to choose Edgar Allan Poe. Not only was he an amazing poet and writer but the way he choose to write some of his poems and short stories were absolutely fascinating. Here are some of the following reasons I would choose Edgar Allan Poe over anyone else in the world.
Not only do we share the same birthday, January 19th, but we both have a knack for writing about the darker parts of the world. Not everything is rainbows and sunshine. He was seen as morbid and obscene for his time and I have been called that many times myself over the course of my writing.
He used amazing and profound ways of capturing the minds of people like myself and projecting his words into art that you could clearly see. Not many authors or poets can do that. The way he could describe places and people with such elegance yet such horror captivated me more so even than Shakespeare himself. The quote "And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain,Thrilled me- filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;" is my most favorite lines out of The Raven. Which was one of the first writing pieces I read from Poe. And since then I've been a huge fan of all his writing.
Those are he main reasons I would like to have a dinner with Edgar Allan Poe. This creative genius. Not only do I believe our night would be filled with laughter and joy. It would also be filled with wonder and would be creatively mysterious in all aspects.
