Bones tell a story by Aubrie - April 2025 Scholarship Essay
Forensic anthropology encompasses more than what you may have seen on the tv show “Bones.” I want to study forensic anthropology to not only discover the untold truth in death but also bring peace to families who continue to live. Just the idea of a loved one disappearing without answers is heartbreaking. Anthropology combines my interests in crime, science, investigation, and compassion. I believe forensic anthropology can play an essential role in uncovering the truth while bringing closure to loved ones. Through the investigation and analysis of human remains, forensic anthropologists are able to identify individuals and uncover the circumstances surrounding their death. This could occur years or even decades later! The idea of telling a true story through the reconstructing of bones is both fascinating and meaningful to me.
I am particularly interested in the anthropology program at Texas State University because of its forensic anthropology resources, including the Forensic Anthropology Center and the cadaver facility, Forensic Anthropology Research Facility (FARF). It is one of the biggest human research labs of its kind in the world. It offers students an opportunity to study human remains in real world conditions, exposed to the outdoor environment. The hands-on experience at Texas State University would provide me with skills needed to become a forensic anthropologist.
