The Influence of Others by Aubrey - February 2024 Scholarship Essay
“Creativity is seeing what others see and thinking what no one else ever thought.” – Albert Einstein. I consider myself a creative person and want my future career to reflect my artistic passions. I have always wanted to make my interest in art a career and teaching others about a subject I am passionate about is an extra bonus. That is my goal through this scholarship, to succeed in my career, to inspire kids, and to nurture the imaginations of the future leaders of America.
As a kid always does, I drew and doodled for fun, but I started taking a larger interest in art in 5th grade. I had befriended the new kid in class and we spent every recess that year drawing under the same tree. I had been the new kid just one year prior so I knew how difficult navigating a new school could be without a friend. Together we helped spark each other's artistic minds and that inspiration has continued to inspire me to this day. This friend and I eventually drifted apart as high school came around, but my passion for art grew and I knew I needed a career built for creativity. The teaching aspect came a bit later. My mom works in education and was a teacher for many years leading up to the job she has now. Her years being a teacher allowed me to grow up knowing what being an educator entailed and in middle school, my love for educating showed itself in my officer role on my middle school dance team. Being on the middle school dance team taught me that I loved being able to teach people new techniques, and perspectives in subjects I am passionate about. So, when it was time to seriously start thinking about a career choice and major it was inevitable that Art Education made its way to the top of my list.
Now that I know what I want to do and where I want to go, next comes finding scholarships that fit with my artistic goals. This scholarship would help me pursue my future career and assist me on the path toward my goals. Having this jumpstart would allow me to live a life that allows me to be creative and influence my future students to pursue art as their own passion. Success to me is creating a new generation of artists that are living their lives creatively. That is my goal through this scholarship, to succeed in my career, to inspire kids, and to nurture the imaginations of the future leaders of America.
Art has been my passion for years and being able to fulfill my dreams through this scholarship and my college career is something I would never be able to forget. I appreciate my past and the people who made me who I am today and who I will continue to become in the future. Texas State’s Art Education Program is exactly the kind of program that will help me pursue my dream career and invest in my future students. I am excited about college and all the opportunities ahead and my hope is this scholarship will be something I can thank when I have a classroom of my own, pursuing my dreams and investing in the next generation of artists.
