Empowering Businesses Through Graphic Design by Aubrey - August 2017 Scholarship Essay
I was recently blessed with the opportunity to take an online Graphic Design course. I was a little nervous because I did not completely understand what Graphic Design was. I was also afraid that I would not be able to keep up with the other students. Thankfully, with a little encouragement from my mom and my professor, I knew that I would receive all the information I needed to do everything the course required.
For eight weeks I learned the basics of Graphic Design. I learned the right way to make logos for businesses, design resumes, research papers, business cards, and many other things. I enjoyed this experience immensely, and when I was finished I noticed how poorly some businesses, including my own, design the things they use to advertise their products. This disappoints me because low-budget, color-clashing designs can hurt a business’s credibility.
Because I learned how to correctly design documents, videos, and websites for my business, I would like to teach others how to create things that portray their business in a positive light. I If I were a professor, I would teach Graphic Design so that prospective business owners could learn how to create clean, clear, and inviting designs that would effectively advertise their product. This would help business owners gain credibility and increase their business. With all of the information that business owners have access to, it’s a shame to see them not use it properly. Teaching them how to use the information would help them get their businesses on the map!
