Close Knit Community by Athena - November 2016 Scholarship Essay

College friends have told me and focused on the point that parties are the best part of college, the worst part is studying, and you blow a lot of money on things. But, there are ways to fix this order of why college is fun and why college is bad. Priorities are how you can fix things. Partying doesn’t come before school work and you work hard so you don’t have to spend a lot of money on tuition. I am going to be thankful for the times I get my homework done and can go out and do fun things. The rewards I’ll be thankful for are the ones that come with hard work. After a week of exams, essays, and loads of homework to be done I will be able to say, “I got this done, now I can go have fun.” Whether having fun for me is at a party or spending it watching a rugby game I will be thankful for hard work.
I will be thankful that hard work will allow me to go to sporting events. Saturday’s are for Bowdoin Rugby games with my family. Since I was a sophomore in high school my brother has been on the Bowdoin Rugby Football club. I have lived vicariously through him, his rugby team, and the love of the community on the pitch and around the Bowdoin campus.
Community and diversity are two big things I have looked for in my college search. I am most excited to meet people and make connections. The connections and people I meet will all impact my life; they will help me get jobs, introduce me to new ideas and in the end I will be forever grateful for the connections I make at college. I will be most thankful for the hard work I do and the rewards I get after the fact.
