The soft skill that has the biggest impact on education is problem-solving. Problem-solving is defined as skills that help determine the source of a problem and find an effective solution (Herrity, 2022). Problem-solving is important in all fields of study because it allows students to think critically and apply what they have learned to real-world problems. Problem-solving also provides the largest impact, because it is often made up of other equally important skills when it is successfully mastered such as active listening, analysis, research, creativity, communication, decision-making, and team building (Herrity, 2022). So, when you find a problem-solver, you also find someone who can effectively accomplish all those other skills as well.

Additionally, problem-solving teaches students how to break down complex concepts into manageable components and come up with creative solutions. Being composed of those additional skills listed above, problem-solving requires one to be able to identify the cause of the issue and understand it fully. The first step to solving any problem is to analyze the situation. Analytical skills will help you understand problems and effectively develop solutions. Once analyzed, decisions for those solutions must be made and communicated effectively (Herrity, 2022). Having these broad range of skills will benefit any student in all aspects of life.

By teaching problem-solving skills, educators foster resilience and help student become better adapted to cope with all challenges they may face. The impact and value of problem-solving today is immeasurable, but crucial, both personally and professionally. By being able to problem-solve, analyze, research, make decisions and communicate those decisions, students will be able to easily adapt to any situation they are faced with. This preparation and support are crucial to success, academically, professionally, and personally. For these reasons, problem-solving is the most impactful soft skill for education and in life.
