Not Every Aspect is Necessary by Ashton - March 2015 Scholarship Essay

Leadership skills are necessary to make it through college successfully.Leadership means the act or instance of guiding or directioning. Leadership as a whole is not completely necessary, but characteristics of leadership such as determination, intuition, and creativity are very necessary to succeed, while other characteristics of leadership, such as confidence, are not a necessity.

In college, people are on their own, away from their parents for the first time. They are opened up to new experiences that they have never had before, and they are forced to make rules for themselves instead of rules being enforced by a guardian. So, to make sure they keep on track with their classes and assignments, they have to be determined. Determination means having a set mind, such as knowing that it is possible to have balance out time spent partying and hanging out with friends with time spent studying and do school work. Once the subjects that they are balancing collide, life is going to be a lot more complicated for them. If people are good in college and determined to balance everything out, they have the will to give up some of the time they enjoy for the time for the time they might not enjoy as much as long it is work out for their grades and they are still being successful.

Intuition is the independent reasoning process of an individual. This precisely is a skill needed for college achievement. Whether people are using their intuition to try to get the correct answer on an exam, or they're are using it to argue with their roommate, it is a valuable, and essential problem solving skill. Intuition is an individualistic type of skill, vary from person to person, but it helps the person get exactly what they need. People that are now in college are going to have to start using their intuition more than they did at home where they had family that could simply tell if they wanted or needed something, and using their intuition was not as necessary. Without their intuition, college students would leave out items they need out of life so as not to have to go out of their way and think of a new way to achieve it.

For anyone to have success in college, they have to be creative. When going to a school that has 60,000 students, the need to stand out of the crowd is much bigger and by being different and creative, people can stand out in a positive way. Creativity is the ability to transcend a craft, to change something up and make it usable for anything someone might be needing. College is where people start making names for themselves, and using the same information that has been know for years and not thinking of anything new will not make them stand out, but will make them fade into the back with others who said the exact same contrivance as them. Creativity also helps people solve problems, whether it be someone needs a funnel so they cut a plastic bottle in half, or that their ten page essay is just shy of nine pages and they have to use filler sentences. Creativity will help at any stage in life, but when people are on their own for the first time, it can really protect them and help.

Confidence is more of a social skill, and while it may be helpful in college, it is not a necessity. Though it is better for a person to be confident, it is not a necessity to succeed because it does not help many people, except for expanding their social scenes. Statistics show that people who are more confident tend to do better at school, but that does not mean people who are not confident do not do well on their work. If a person has low confidence, they most likely have a smaller social group, which means they get more chances to study without conflict of social life. Confidence is not a bad characteristic at all, but is just is not a necessity to do well in college.

Leadership as a whole is not necessary to do well in college. Parts of it are very necessary, but then some parts are not, and thats what makes it not necessary to be the greatest leader in college. The characteristics of leadership that are actually needed to succeed are intuition, creativity, and determination, but leadership itself is not a necessity.
