If I were the teacher... by Ashton - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

From the first day of my sixth grade year till what will be my last day as a senior in high school. I have been placed on a fast track schedule of honors and AP level classes and have bee able to have a education rich with knowledge and car on my teachers part. Persuading me choose a honor/AP level United States History as the class I would teach if the roles had to be reversed.
As for why I would choose United States History would largely be due to the level of impact those teachers have had in my life. The subject of US History as a whole has a large importance to who I am as a person and how I will personally go about living the rest of my life because I blessed enough to have a teacher who truly cared about history and education. Through his class I learned more than the depths of the textbook because he wanted us to truly understand what happened in our Nations past and everything that shaped this country to be the way that it is.
Having that kind of teacher in my life has had a major impact on the way I think and process information that I hear both politically and just in my day to day life. Knowing that as a United States History teacher especially in the high level courses I would be able to have the same impact on kids would mean the world to be because the kids I would be teaching would be the ones to one day run this country that I call home. Therefore the more of a understanding they have as to what and how things happened in our nation would lead them to make educated decisions on how they will vote and hopefully act accordingly to ensure that this country is the best for when their kids and grandkids.
