My Advice for Freshmen by Ashlyn - November 2014 Scholarship Essay
There are many pieces of advice I could give to incoming freshmen, including probably one hundred topics. Freshman year is a difficult year to go through. You are trying to find yourself and it is a process of what friend group you will end up in. That one decision will change all of your actions throughout high school. I would love to give them advice on how you do not have to fit in to be cool.
High school is a quick four years of life but those decisions in high school will define who you are in the future. As much as some incoming freshman do not want to hear it, it is so true that the seem-to-be cool crowd is not where you want to be. I feel like freshmen should know that the trick to high school is to stick out by making good grades and doing good deeds other than partying like all the others. Most likely, the people you met in high school, you will never see again. They will also wish they had done things the other way around when they find themselves not succeeding like those that tried really hard in high school.
My advice is to do not listen to others. Do not fall into that temptation that you will be placed in. Stand out by volunteering and working hard in the class room. And when those certain people pick on you for being a goody-two-shoes, ignore them. They will see someday how wrong they are. Start out strong in high school and choose a group of friends that you will be proud of in the future. Never let those who are bad influences drag you down into that darkness that will haunt you for the rest of your life. Stay innocent as long as you can and think of how you will want to be remembered one day when you look back on high school. Do you want to be remembered as the party animal or the person who worked so hard in high school and succeeded? It is all your choice, now it is time to make the right decisions.
