Agriculture class by Ashlyn - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

If the roles were changed and I was teaching an academic subject i would choose to teach agriculture. I chose this subject because I enjoy partaking in this class, I also know how important this class is to some students, such as myself. Not everybody can find their spot in sports, or be the best in math or any other subject, but many students find where they belong in a class such as agriculture. In joining an agriculture class you can do many things through that class such as show livestock, learn and become a welder, excel in public speaking and many more areas.

One of the reasons I would love and enjoy teaching an agriculture class is because the teacher gets to experience the kids grow and learn about things they love. I know just from participating in many areas of that class that it brings kids out of their comfort zone, brings them into areas of new experience, and making new friends. Going and participating in the many activities in itself brings them out of their comfort zones,and gets them talking to new people

An area of high interest in this class is showing livestock, just this in itself brings you out of your comfort zone, you meet many new people and make many friends. To some kids, this class is everything to them. This is where they found the spot they fit in, and where they have found their closest friends. It is also a good spot to be in if you like animals and enjoy learning about them.

Talking from personal experience, I have grown a great amount since I became apart of this class. When I first started as a freshman I was shy, I did not talk and i didn’t have many friends. Now, a senior in high school, I am a chapter officer, participate in public speaking, show livestock, and I am a member of the livestock judging team. I would have never thought of myself as somebody who got out there and became friends with most people in my class who are connected through this class. I have really put myself out there doing things i never thought I would have done, and I am truly thankful for this class.
If the roles were changed and I was teaching an academic subject, I would without a doubt be teaching agriculture, I choose this area because i know what this class means to some students. Without this class many kids would not have a place where they felt like they belonged. This class has many different area of studies within the one class. The main area is in fact agriculture, but you can learn many other things such as, how to be a welder, how to judge and show livestock, learn how to be a public speaker, or even be the leader of your chapter. Being able to watch the students be active in the things they love and grow is the main reason why I would teach an agriculture class.
