Education is Everywhere by Ashly - July 2019 Scholarship Essay

When you think of education, some people think of going to a building and sitting all day while someone stands at the front of the room rambling on about one subject or another. For one reason or another some are there because they must be, and some are there because they want to be. This goes for teachers as well as students. Education regarding the ones teaching at the front of the room, I have had many. Many have been good, but the ones that have been great are the instructors that you could tell really took and interest, not only in what they taught but in making sure their students had fun while they learned. The most memorable classes I have had are when the instructor makes you want to come to class because you can’t wait to see what is in store for you because of all the fun and excitement. Yes, even in a medical ethics class this is possible. In my daily work I try to follow this lead. I love to continue learning new things everyday and with that I can pass that knowledge on to the patients I help take care of on a daily basis. To be able to teach a child something in the medical field even as simple as what a blood pressure cuff does and what it tells us while watching their amazement in their expression is a gift itself. This is my passion. To be able to learn as much as I can to pass it on to others and with that new information they may want to learn more themselves about healthcare. I have seen that sometimes this also helps calm the patient. They know exactly what is happening and why we do it. To learn one new thing a day helps make it a great day.
Coming from a family of educators, education has always been a big thing for my family. I have become a Certified Nursing Assistant, a Certified Medical Assistant through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) and now I venture on to become a Registered Nurse with hopes of obtaining my Family Nurse Practitioner license. I go to local conferences and national conferences. Everywhere I take notes and meet new people. I learn from these new people and with my new-found knowledge am able to take it back to inform co-workers and even providers that I work with. Education doesn’t just mean that you sit in a room as someone talks. Education means that you listen, learn, retain, and teach the next person. From that point on it is up to the next person with how they use their new-found knowledge.
