Intiragtion and Innovation by Ashley - February 2022 Scholarship Essay
When it comes to electives I think of them to be fun and exciting. The atmosphere is welcoming due to people genuinely wanting to be in the class. Unlike the mandatory classes that are assigned in order to graduate, they do not teach how to integrate into society. To some, this is an easy process. To others it takes some time to do so, they are not used to the new environment and it could get overwhelming. This elective allows people to be more prepared for the future.
The curriculum would be set out into 4 parts, these parts being, one's own standards, basic societal standards, learning about others standards from different religions and backgrounds, and lastly own's one standard again.
The first part of the curriculum about one’s own standard would be the starting point and the baseline. It allows someone to understand themselves more, it shows who they are as a person right in front of them and allows them to reflect on themselves, during or later on.
The second curriculum of learning basic societal standards shows what basic values almost everyone has. It shows how similar the people around are to them, and to this, it shows that the world is welcoming to them. It allows them to feel comfortable in the world around them.
The third curriculum allows for one to see other societies, it shows how vast and different people are. Yet it also shows how common people can be, even with them being on the other side of the world. It allows for people to grow and understand another's perspective. It shows that one has to be open-minded to others. This allows for people to be less judgemental and nuanced. The curriculum would show other countries, religions, and aspects of jobs. This is in order how people are treated either in the society or because of it.
Lastly, one's own standard is introduced again, It allows them to show a change in their character. It shows how they have grown as a person. With this, they are able to be more accustomed to society and how it works.
It is fairly similar to the elective of sociology yet this one allows for change. It teaches about personal growth, instead of teaching about others just about other people and society.
