Why Discipline is Your Best Friend in College by Ashley - September 2014 Scholarship Essay
Discipline is your best friend! Yup, that's right! You read that correctly! In college, I have come to realize that discipline is vital to being successful in college and life in general. If you have no discipline, you will not survive college.
What I mean by discipline is this: you need to realize what your real priorities are and make those your main focus, instead of choosing to do something else instead. Yes, that means that sometimes you will be sitting in your dorm room on a Saturday night writing an essay for a scholarship application instead of going out with your friends because you know that getting a scholarship is way more important than having fun for the moment. Now, I'm not saying that all you should do is work, work, work. All I'm saying is that there is a time and place for everything. For example, if instead of putting off a project until the last possible second, you actually completed it in time or even early, then you wouldn't have to stress out about it and, surprisingly enough, you're going to have more time later to relax or even go out with your friends! If you decide to forgo discipline and choose to procrastinate, chances are you will stress out a lot, get low grades, and mess up your GPA, yikes!
You see? Discipline equals no stress and no mess! Discipline really is your best friend! If you create good habits now, they will carry on into your life as you transition from college to the workplace. Discipline will impress your bosses and everyone around you. You will become indispensable. Make discipline a habit in your life! You will never regret it.
