Early Bird or Night Owl? by Ashley - January 2019 Scholarship Essay
I would say I’m more of an early bird based on my gatherings, which makes more sense. At first, I thought I was a night owl based on the obvious fact that most of my loud family is in bed by ten o’clock. It seemed like the obvious choice from the lack of noise from the television, usually from video-games or soap operas, and voices in the common area. However, I realized that when I studied or tried to do tidy work like filing my documents or chores, I never finished until the next day. This is because when the day goes on, I would use energy on other matters.
When I wake up, I’m a clean slate with fresh energy, thus making me more productive. Not only that, but my attention is more laser-focused because there are no distractions from work, friends, or my family. I work part-time in the evening, so my manager would definitely not call me in the morning unless someone could not cover their shift which rarely happens. My step-father leaves for work in the morning while my mother sleeps in after dropping my brother off at school, meaning the morning is perfect for me to work in a calm environment. On productive mornings, I never answer the phone to preserve this calm especially because the day is going to pick up around one or two o’clock.
In conclusion, I am an early bird. I concentrate on my work more in morning because there are little to no distractions and worries. I purposefully try to avoid any and everything that may obscure the calm environment, especially my phone, because my house becomes noisy around one o’ clock.
