The Nobel Prize Winner: One Whom Passionately Unifies by Ashley - December 2018 Scholarship Essay
Winning the Nobel Prize is one of the highest achievements a scholar can receive, and it is important to consider all the qualities a person has before awarding them. Being on the committee who chooses the recipient i’m sure is a near impossible task. There are so many people in this world that do a lot of good and who have solved unsolvable problems. If I were faced with the task of choosing, I would pick somebody who made a cultural advancement and is extremely passionate achieving their goal. Even with these guidelines, I feel as thought it would still be a nearly impossible decision.
In a world full of hate and discrimination, it is so refreshing to see someone who works hard to make everyone feel included. When I see people rallying for women’s rights or being social media warriors combating online homophobia, I gain a little it of hope for the future of our society. I feel as though the recipient of the Nobel Prize should be one of the individuals rallying for equality of all. To be treated as a human is something everyone expects, but not everyone receives. Someone who strives to improve society by attempting to unify us all is exactly what I would be looking for.
I also want the recipient to be passionate about the change they are making. This does not mean they have to have spent their entire lifetime dedicated to it, for that would be a little ageist. It does mean, however, that they have to show true enthusiasm. I would never want to pick someone who just “happened” upon the cure for a disease. I would want to pick someone who was so dedicated to find the cure that they made it their life mission. I want to pick someone for their life achievement, not a happy accident.
Choosing who wins the Nobel Prize is definitely not easy. There are so many people in this world who are very deserving of the award that it would be very hard to narrow down the list at all. All the people on the committee definitely have their work cut out for them every time they must choose. If I were faced with this impossible task, I would strongly consider their work, as well as their dedication. In doing so I am sure I’d come up with an outstanding candidate extremely worthy of the Nobel Prize.
