Teacher Appreciation by Ashley - July 2014 Scholarship Essay
I had a teacher in high school who taught Physics and Chemistry. He made his students expand his/her mind to accept learning from a different angle. Despite criticism, he strived to teach science in a fun and retaining environment. I learned so much from this teacher. He made me want to teach myself. I am now a Registered Nurse working to complete my Bachelor's degree. My Bachelor's degree will allow teaching to take place within the scope of practice. I will be able to teach future nursing students. Nursing students are not learning what they need to in the current curriculum. They are no longer being able to complete skills hands on in clinical practice. An Associate's degree is a great start to learning how to become a responsible nurse. While working on my Bachelor's degree, I often think back to that teacher that made me want to teach.
This same teacher has recently been in a horrible motor vehicle accident. He was fighting for his life in the hospital. He is now on the road to recovery, and within a week he will be coming as a patient to the nursing home that I work for. I look forward to being able to return the favor and take care of him. He has developed my thinking in school. I will now be able to take care of him and hopefully assist him in making a full recovery. This is a small world. We do not realize that those people we help will one day be helping us. It will be an honor to take care of this wonderful teacher.
