Don't "College" and "Opportunity" Mean the Same Thing? by Ashley - June 2013 Scholarship Essay

The words “college” and “opportunity” are interchangeable to me. When I think of going back to school after a break, I look forward to all of the things I can accomplish rather than dreading the workload to come. That workload is a privilege that unfortunately not everyone has access to. I believe that if I’m lucky enough to go to college and I’m paying for it, I’m going to take full advantage of it and do the best I can.
College is ultimately the key to a bright future, and more desirable job opportunities. Being able to recognize that has put me on the right foot in the beginnings of my college career. I study hard and practice leadership in everything I do; I am simply driven to succeed. I have joined social, academic and professional organizations, as well as hold a heavy course load and steady jobs. What is the point of all of my hard work? Everything I push myself in opens a door leading to new opportunities. Those opportunities range from jobs, to internships, to scholarships and more that only create a domino effect of more opportunities to come.
Attending college means to me “opportunity,” which my ambition has me craving. College is a head start and even a bonus to the rest of my life. It is a way to pave my future the way I see fit, so I can accomplish all my goals and not just hope that my dreams will come true, but make it happen.
