How my achievements have become my passion by Ashley - March 2014 Scholarship Essay
I possess outstanding merits, am a consistent worker and am dedicated to my studies. I have been placed on both the President’s List and the Dean’s List at Brevard Community College for outstanding achievements of a 4.0 GPA for the 2010 spring and fall terms prior to graduating with my Associate in Arts degree. In addition, I currently hold a 3.6 GPA average with Keiser University, where I am finishing up my second semester of nursing school. All this aside, I must say that my greatest academic achievement and one I am most proud of has been my acceptance into the Nursing mentorship program at Keiser University.
My nursing journey began five years ago as a volunteer at Health First Cape Canaveral Hospital’s Prep and Discharge outpatient unit. Two years later, I began working as a Nursing Assistant at Health First Viera Hospital on the Medical/Surgical/Orthopedic unit. In December of 2013, my unit manager granted me a role change from a Nursing Assistant to a Nurse Tech. I continue to work on my home every week until I finish nursing school. Through this experience, I’ve learned that while I am not yet qualified to mend a patient physically, I have become quite proficient in mending them spiritually, offering my own compassion and heartfelt sympathy for the unfortunate circumstances that they may be experiencing. I started out with no prior knowledge of the human body; now here I am, a soon to be registered nurse, mentoring students that belong to the classes that follow me. The experience of helping a fellow student understand the nursing process is surreal to me. While it may not seem like much to an outsider, the feeling of self worth is what makes it valuable, especially since nursing has become more than a career for me- it has become my passion.
