As the tables turn by Ashley - October 2016 Scholarship Essay
If roles were reversed I would choose science as a subject to teach in the high school curriculum. In my teaching science, students will get real world connections and a new perspective on learning.
As being able to teach science, students will be able to relate it to the real world. Many science teachers that I have learned from in my high school years have taught strictly from the book as is. Now of course it is important to get the actual concept through reading, but it also makes it difficult to understand on a deeper level. Without truly getting involved, there is no substance to the material and they are just words from a book. If I were to teach in a classroom, my students would no longer pester me of why we are learning such material if they don’t even know it’s purpose.
Another important aspect would be to give students a new perspective on learning. It is understandable that school is school and isn’t just a time for friends to socialize with each other. I sometimes have trouble enjoying material just because there are no teaching methods other than taking notes straight from the books. I have noticed that when teachers decide to take it a step further and become interactive with the material, it is far more recognizable.
If roles were reversed, teaching science will be my ideal choice. It is better to make an impact on some than none at all, fortunately I would be able help by relating it to the real world and giving a new look on learning.
