Woman With Unibrow's by Ashante - February 2016 Scholarship Essay
Through life I have been inspired by many different people and their backgrounds. The idea of how low someone can't start and how far they climb is amazing. To see others achieve their goals bypassing obstacles greater then my gives me hope. No story captivates me more then Frida Kahlo's. Kahlo was a very talented painter. Throughout her life she pushed through negative comments about her appearance. She accepted that her beauty wasn't as pleasing to the eyes as others but she was content with herself. In her many self portraits Kahlo drastically emphasizes her unappealing features. The essence she created around herself was beautiful, as if challenging society.
I think that is so amazing for a women during her time period to say,"society this is me, this is how I come." During dinner, Kahlo would explain how she demonstrated so much confidence in her artwork. I would hope to learn the mastery of picturing myself greater mentally. Kahlo would give me tips on how to perfect my own art and to always love myself. Frida Kahlo was such a beautiful spirit. For a women to be content with their life and confident in themselves is so attractive and inspiring. To gain primary knowledge from someone with those characteristics, is a great learning experience.
